In 1973 and 74 Avedon filmed several television commercials for the Japanese brand Jun Ropé. Avedon’s 1965/6 ads for Carter’s 100th anniversary are some of the earliest racially integrated advertisements in American history. Published in general circulation magazines such as Parents and Redbook, the simple, straightforward ads presented the children as playmates and inherently acknowledged their caregivers as a unified group.
